My name is Patricia Lee and I am 64 years old. In August 2019, I was diagnosed with stage 1 lung cancer.
A couple of months after my surgery, I was feeling very helpless and worried because of the unknown of my illness. It was a very difficult time for me and I kept on asking myself why it happened to me. A lot of times, my mind was full of negative thoughts which led to my sleeping problem.
In July 2021, I joined 365 Cancer Prevention Society (365CPS) which I came to know through Facebook. The staff is very caring and efficient. They introduced the various activities to me. I have attended “Mindfulness Workshop” via Zoom which has benefited me. One good example is “To live at this present moment” and “Not in the Past or Future”. It makes me think and re-phase my life.
Currently, I am undergoing counselling with 365CPS. The counsellor is very professional and a good listener. After a few sessions, I have learned how to take things one step at a time, not to think too much, to recognise the distortions in thinking and address the negative thoughts. I started to open up more and learnt to accept whatever I have encountered, live at this present moment, and to appreciate the people and environment around me.
I would like to express my gratitude to 365CPS staff, volunteers and donors for the support and care during this journey and to tell all my fellow cancer fighters that we are not alone. There is always “HOPE” and wishing everyone all the best.
