Passionate and Motivated

Despite not being able to meet members physically, being able to meet them virtually during some of our daily activities was more than enough to motivate me to deliver my best for them behind the scenes.

Hi, my name is Jun Xian, but feel free to call me Zenn instead! I am a business analytics student from the Singapore University of Social Sciences and was attached with 365 Cancer Prevention Society (365CPS) for 6 months.

As someone who has had a close encounter with cancer, I was extremely passionate and motivated to start contributing to 365CPS. Being the only individual studying the field of business analytics meant that I was given a lot more anatomy. However, it also brought about uncertainties in terms of what I can do and whether I am doing them right. Hence, I am extremely grateful for the trust that 365CPS had given me as well as the consistent communication I had with my supervisor, Andrew Ong, during my 6 months stint.

Like many, starting my work attachment during this period meant that I started my first day of work at home rather than in the office. However, I was surprised to be greeted with warm welcome messages by people from the various departments through our group chat. I was also pleasantly surprised by the culture of having a monthly company lunch via Zoom to gather everyone as well as to meet new colleagues. This openness eventually influenced me to have an open communication between myself and other colleagues throughout the next 6 months.

While my role does not involve the need to interact with our members, it was pertinent that I understand the business processes before conducting my analysis to propose needed changes. Despite not being able to meet members physically, being able to meet them virtually during some of our daily activities was more than enough to motivate me to deliver my best for them behind the scenes.

As I spent more time working behind the scenes, I came to understand the unique challenges faced by the admins and appreciate the work that they do which cannot be seen by many others. From data recording to data integrity, their work has ensured the safety of our members’ personal data and aided many across departments to access the relevant data that is required efficiently. Collectively, these efforts come to provide quicker and better service for our members across Singapore and that is admirable.

With such a vast amount of data available and organised, my hope is that bringing in someone who has more experience will lead to further discoveries being made from the data..

I look forward to what data can bring about for 365CPS and the social service sector in the future.
