It was much joy to still be able to meet each other virtually and seeing familiar faces each week warms our heart.

Hi! My name is Yue Ping.  I am a social work student and I was attached with 365 Cancer Prevention Society for a 10-weeks internship.

Throughout my internship, I worked closely with the Psychosocial Department, Care Leader team. I am blessed to work alongside a warm and kind-hearted team, who were all willing to share with me their work and experiences. Progressively, I was tasked to a diverse range of duties from micro-level casework, mezzo-level group activity facilitation to improving service practices like co-reviewing on internal process, curating a community resource directory, etc.

Personally, I find the greatest challenge during my internship to be the constraint of not being able to meet 365CPS members the usual face-to-face way via home visits or at the social service centres, due to the Phase 2 (Heightened Alert) safety measures. It just feels different to me meeting someone physically as it is the core of what we usually do in social work – reaching out to people. Nonetheless, our team still managed to work around with the situation using technologies, such as WhatsApp and Zoom to keep in touch with members.

Speaking of technology, one of the most exciting duties that I had was being a co-host of the weekly Kopi Talk sessions via Zoom.  Some of you may have met me during the sessions! For those of you who have not joined us, Kopi Talk is a casual chit-chat session among 365CPS members and Care Leaders which occurs every Friday during lunch time. It was much joy to still be able to meet each other virtually and seeing familiar faces each week warms our heart.

Apart from the exposures to my field of study, I also had the opportunity to learn from professionals in other disciplines like counsellors, dieticians and oncologist as there were weekly internal sharing sessions as well as public talks available to the general public on 365CPS Facebook. These are informative knowledge that will help me better work with cancer patients, survivors and their family in the future.

In all, the 10-weeks at 365CPS had been a meaningful journey with many memorable moments. I would like to especially thank my supervisor, all Care Leaders and the 365CPS members who I cross path with, for all the experience during this journey!
