Hi everyone, my name is Tan Hock Khee. I was diagnosed with stage 3 of rectal cancer. I only found out about my cancer because every time I go to the toilet to pass motion, there is only water being excreted. I became very worried after a few occurrences, and I decided to seek professional help. I went to the doctor, and I was diagnosed with terminal stage rectal cancer. I couldn’t believe the words coming out from my doctor’s mouth and went to seek opinion from other doctors. Unfortunately, all of the doctors confirmed the diagnosis.
Eventually, I resigned to fate and went to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital to confirm my diagnosis and start treatment. Upon diagnosis, I was put on a schedule for radiotherapy. However, the treatment was not very effective, so the doctors decided to perform a surgery on me.My most difficult period was before and after the surgery. Before the surgery, I was in a very uncomfortable state because I kept having the urge to pass motion but only water was excreted. After surgery, it hurt a lot and I could not walk properly. It definitely affected my quality of life.
My goddaughter was a believer and arranged for the pastor of her church to pray for me. I was comforted by it and the support gave me strength to fight on. Cancer changed my lifestyle as I am more conscious of my diet now and I dare not indulge in food as much as before. With my newfound faith, I also began going to church regularly.
I was introduced to 365 Cancer Prevention Society (365CPS) through CDAC as they wanted me to get hold of more community resources. I am really impressed by the services and programs provided by 365CPS. I am directly benefiting from 365CPS Financial Assistance due to my financial background. My Care Leader was very helpful and patient when he was helping me apply for Financial Assistance.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the donors for their contribution and I wish them to be in good health. To my fellow cancer fighters who are reading this, the journey is not easy and it is full of challenges but do not be afraid because we are all in this together. Let’s be strong and have faith. We will pull through!
