My internship journey with 365 Cancer Prevention Society (365CPS) started on 7th of September 2020. When I first heard about the opportunity from school, I was very thankful as not many people from school had been given the chance to work in the nutrition-related industry. Many of my friends had been attached to food manufacturing companies instead. My first day of work was pretty cool. As it was during the COVID-19 period, I started my first day at home. Even though I did not visit the office, I received a warm welcome from everyone at 365CPS via text. Everyone was incredibly friendly and it made me feel at ease and comfortable. I met my supervisor, a dietitian, on my first day via zoom. She gave me a detailed briefing of what was to come in the next three months. Later that day, I was invited to join a company meeting, during which we celebrated the birthdays of the organization’s September babies. It was then that I started getting to know the people in 365CPS. While I spent a majority of my time working from home, I had the opportunity to visit AMK Social Service Centre and the CW office a few times.
Throughout my internship, I had the chance to get involved in a diverse range of work. This gave me the opportunity to learn a lot and gain valuable experience. Some of the assignments I worked on included designing nutrition education tools such as PowerPoint slides and coming up with healthy recipes. I was also given the opportunity to experience recipe videography and photoshoots. I even managed to give a few talks regarding nutrition online for staff training sessions and cancer fighters using the slides I had designed. I had the chance to get involved in nutrition consultation sessions alongside my supervisor. These were all new experiences I had never had before. During the course of my internship, I received valuable feedback on my performance from my supervisor. The feedback allowed me to learn and grow and produce work of higher quality each time.
As I progressed with my internship, I got to know more about 365CPS. I learned about the services they offered and the invaluable help they provide for cancer fighters and their families. I found out how much thought and effort was put into helping every single person. I also heard many empowering stories from our cancer fighters whose strength and bravery I truly admire.
Wrapping this up, I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank my supervisor for her guidance and the help she provided me throughout the past three months despite being incredibly busy herself. I would also like to thank 365CPS and everyone there, for their warm welcome on my first day and for the wonderful opportunity to work alongside all of them. A huge thank you to 365CPS! These three months have been very memorable indeed!
