You might know of the Five Love Languages, which are ways that people express and receive love in relationships. These languages help us understand how we want love to be shown to us and how we can show love to others. But did you know that the Five Love Languages can also be used in the context of self-love too? Let us take a look at how we can show ourselves some love with the Five Love Languages!

The 5 Love Languages

  1. Physical Touch: Connect with yourself and give yourself a massage, fill yourself a warm bath or have a warm shower. It helps to relive some of the tension after a long day.
  2. Gifts: Treat yourself to something special every now and then. For example, get yourself a book, a spa day, or get that delicious dessert you have been craving!
  3. Words of Affirmation: Our thoughts can influence our emotions and behaviors. Silent your inner critic and always try to speak kindly to yourself. You may also want to start a journal to pen your thoughts. Write down your strengths and give yourself credit and acknowledge your achievements no matter how big or small they may be.
  4. Quality Time: Dedicate time to your passions, hobbies, or simply enjoy being in the moment. Enjoy your own company!
  5. Acts of Service: Do things that nurture your body and mind. Cook yourself a healthy meal, organise your living space, meditate, or go for a long walk – whatever helps you feel good!
