Common or classic rules and criteria for detox programmes include short-term fasting, specific drinks or fresh vegetables and fruits, or eliminating certain food items that contain heavy metals and contaminants.  Additionally, some may include diuretics, laxatives, or supplements to help excrete and cleanse the body.

Science tells us that our bodies are much capable of eliminating unwanted substances through urination, faeces, and sweating. Our liver plays an important role in the body’s metabolism and detoxification process as it ensures the substances we consume are not a threat. Additionally, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) ensures that undesirable harmful substance contents in food, such as heavy metal levels, are properly guarded and examined before it can enter the market. Apart from that, use of pharmaceuticals and antibiotics is also rigorously regulated.

The idea of incorporating more greens and fruits into our diet is helpful, especially if you struggle to meet the requirements of eating two servings of fruits and two servings of vegetables daily. Furthermore, reducing the intake of processed food or alcohol may also improve one’s well-being and reduce their risk of developing cancer. It has always been one of our mantras to encourage exercise regularly in order to keep our body healthy and fit.
