My name is Serene Swee Mei Chang. I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer Stage 2 back in April 2012. I have been through chemotherapy for one year. Thereafter I went through radiotherapy and surgery. A friend of mine then introduced 365 Cancer Prevention Society (365CPS) to me.
365CPS has a variety of exercises and activities which I participated in many of them. My favourite ones are their signature Detox Exercise and Zumba. I have benefited greatly from these activities as they help my body to stay healthy and strong.
Apart from exercises, 365CPS also have other classes such as Art and Crafts, Ukulele and Singing Class. Whenever I attend these classes, they help to brighten up my mood and keep me cheerful, energetic and most importantly, they help keep my mind clear of any worries and pain.
365CPS also have wonderful chefs who whip up healthy and delicious meals every day after the activities.
There are educational and nutritional talks as well. I love listening to those talks because I gain a lot of knowledge to help me in my cancer fighting and prevention journey.
Occasionally, 365CPS will organize outings to various places such as Snow City, Science Centre and the River Safari. I can go to these places by myself but going with my group of friends at 365CPS makes the experience unforgettable!
To top it off, whenever it is my birthday month, the staff and care leader will invite me to celebrate together with everyone who is celebrating their birthdays as well. The staff at 365CPS are thoughtful and always make me feel very happy, loved and treasured.
After joining 365CPS, my life is now very exciting. I am hopeful, happy and healthy! I have to say that various aspects of my life are now better because of 365CPS. I have made many wonderful friends whom I can share my stories with and encourage one another.
Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the centres are closed and we lost a place to gather and attend the classes we love. However, 365CPS is quick to venture into migrating most of their activities to zoom platform so that we can still join the activities from the comfort of our homes! It made me feel less lonely during the circuit breaker period.
My care leader also does a good job to call me every month to check on me to see how I am doing. He provides companionship and makes sure that other aspects of my life are all taken care of.
I am grateful to the staff at 365CPS because they encourage me when I am down, give me support and shower me with care and concern. This is indeed a warm and homely place to call my own.
